Chautauqua Opera Company
Special guest
Founded in 1929, The Chautauqua Opera Company is North America's oldest continuously operating summer opera company and 4th oldest opera company after the Metropolitan Opera, Cincinnati Opera and San Francisco Opera. The Chautauqua Opera Company offers more than 30 operatic events each season on the idyllic grounds of Chautauqua Institution. These events include three mainstage productions in Chautauqua Institution's 4000-seat Amphitheater and in the historic 1,300-seat Norton Hall, concerts with the Chautauqua Symphony Orchestra, weekly recitals, opera performances for young audiences, and a series of community engagement events titled “Opera Invasion”. Chautauqua Opera productions feature internationally recognized guest artists alongside emerging artists from Chautauqua Opera's Young Artist Program, which makes up the core of the company.
Chautauqua Opera's Young Artist Program was established in 1968. Now under the supervision of General and Artistic Director Steven Osgood and Music Administrator/Chorus Master Carol Rausch, it is recognized as one of the best training programs for emerging singers in America today. The program has seen over 1,000 artists benefit from this professional training experience.
